Top 5 Things To Do In Paris During August

If you are planning to take a trip to France during the month of August, you might be surprised at how many blogs try to steer you away from visiting during this time of the year. Some of the main reasons they cite are hot weather, overcrowded tourist spots and closed restaurants. But fear not, young traveler! We’ve got you covered on places to avoid, as well as secret spots and activities just for you to discover.

Many Parisians are out of town on vacations forcing a few popular spots to close. But we’ve created a list of fun things you can do this month:

1 – Paris Plage

Once a year, Paris transforms into a beachside getaway along the Siene. This is a great outing for the whole family. You can take a free tai chi class, or enjoy a little sun tanning while the children build sandcastles and eat delicious ice cream!

2 – Outdoor Markets

With weather this fantastic you’re going to want to enjoy the markets that are offered all over the city.

Make sure you grab a Cavillion melon! These delicious melons are in season at this time and are something you should try at least once! These golden fruits have been apart of local history for over 150 years. They have a sweet taste and aromatic scent that you won’t soon forget. 3 – Ride a VELIB’

Feel like strolling around the city during the afternoon but don’t want to be crowded by other wandering pedestrians?? Then you should try taking a bike! When using a VELIB‘ rental the first 30 minutes are always free. And you can return it to any VELIB’ station you find, so it’s very convenient.

4 – Museum visits

If you’re not a fan of warm weather and would prefer an indoor activity, museuums are definitely the way to go. And you’re in luck, because there are plenty of them in Paris! We have a few tricks up our sleeves to avoid the long lines and overcrowded spots! Most of the museums will extend the hours during this month, so don’t feel rushed to get there before close  You can purchase yourself a ticket that allows you to conveniently book the time of your tour, and skip the lines when you get there! . Best of all: entrance fees to some museums are waived for visitors under the age of 26!

5 – Movies in the park

During the month of August movies are shown at the Parc de Villette a few nights a week for about 2 Euros per person.  You can bring along a blanket, a nice bottle wine, and few snacks, and enjoy a cool summer night in Paris in style.
