Set in the Perigourdine countryside, this historic chateau, whose origins date to the 16th-century, is one of the finest properties in our portfolio. Set in 25-acre grounds, the chateau overlooks a magnificent park with manicured lawns, mature trees, shrubs and landscaped flower beds. Below the chateau in the park is a beautiful swimming pool and set away to one side is a hard-surface tennis court. Adjacent to one side of the property is a vine-covered outdoor dining area with a table and chairs for 8 people. And there are wonderful views of the countryside to enjoy both inside and out.
Inside, the chateau has been renovated and decorated with no expense spared. Traditional architectural features include wood beamed ceilings, stone, travertine and wood floors, exposed stone walls and old stone fireplaces. Among the most unique restoration is an original open-lattice wood staircase. All the building materials, appliances and fixtures are of the highest quality. Richly-colored fabrics and an array of antique tables, chests, armoires, artwork, tapestries and engravings create an atmosphere of casual elegance you must experience to truly appreciate.
To the right of the entry hall is a spacious living room with a pale yellow brocade sofa and easy chairs grouped around an antique table by a massive stone fireplace. Antique chests, occasional tables, lamps and fine carpets accent this very handsome and inviting room with French doors opening to the park. An archway off the living room opens to a card room, a delight to the eye with its splendid “trompe l’oeil” fresco of a stone patio enclosed by columns. At the other end of the living room, a hallway leads to a study with an old stone fireplace and comfortable easy chairs. A closet with antique wood doors houses a media center with wide-screen satellite television. French doors from the study also open to the park and grounds.
To the right of the entry is a formal dining room with antique drop-leaf dining table and chairs. Lovely carpets, wall tapestries and chests complete the room with French doors opening to a graveled terrace in the back. A corridor from the dining room leads to the French country kitchen at the far end of the property. This is a great cooking kitchen with all appliances and extensive preparation space for cooks of all levels. And if you prefer to spend your vacation away from the kitchen, the caretakers are able cooks and provide cooking services on advance request.
The chateau has 4 bedroom suites, each with full bathroom. The bedrooms are beautifully appointed with handsome fabrics, lovely bedcovers and curtains, carpets, antique tables and chests, antique engravings and paintings. The bathrooms, all with tubs and hand-held shower attachments, have fine ceramic fixtures as well as granite counters and tilework.
From the entry hall, the original wood slat staircase leads to two of the bedroom suites. One has a queen bed with old stone fireplace and the other has a junior queen. Another staircase near the study goes up to two king-bedded suites. One is a master suite with four-poster wood bed and easy chairs arranged near the old stone fireplace. Across the hall is the other king-bedded suite, also with fireplace and chairs. Additional toilet facilities are located in the hall by the study.
