If your dream is a home in the French wine country, look no further. This stone cottage is located in one of the most picturesque settings we’ve seen — in the Bergerac wine region of the Périgord. It features beautiful views of vineyards and rolling countryside. There are villages and shops within short drives. The lively and historic town of Bergerac – with its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses – is just twenty minutes away. Wine-lovers will particularly enjoy visits to an array of Bergerac wine domaines. And the renowned St-Emilion and Bordeaux wine regions are easy day trips from here.
The grounds include a spacious garden with lawn, a variety of shade and fruit trees, a pretty pool and a stone terrace adjacent to the house. Along one side of the pool is a covered pergola with built-in barbecue area, an ideal spot for outdoor dining. Whether you’re relaxing at the pool or enjoying a leisurely outdoor meal, you’ll look out over superb vineyard views.
Inside, the house is decorated with great taste and charm featuring a combination of French country and contemporary furnishings. With many French doors opening to the grounds, it is light and airy.
To the left of the entry, stairs lead down to the open plan country kitchen with dining area. The kitchen is fully equipped and has its own fireplace with wood burning stove. It is an inviting place to cook and has all appliances. The dining area, with a country table and chairs, is set by a gallery of windows overlooking the garden and lovely views. A door from the kitchen opens to the spacious living room with dark wood beamed ceiling, terra cotta tile floors and light walls. In the sitting area are a red upholstered sofa, love seat and easy chair grouped in front of the fireplace with wood burning stove. A small wood table and chairs provides another dining or game area. French doors from both the living room and kitchen open to the garden and wonderful views.
There are a total of three bedrooms and four bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms and their ensuite bathrooms are down a corridor to the right of the entry. The bedrooms are decorated with pretty bedcovers, curtains, bedside tables, lamps, chests and ample wardrobe space. The tiled bathrooms have American-style tubs with showers, sinks and toilet facilities. Also off the corridor is another full bathroom with shower.
A door at the end of the sitting room leads to the tower suite. On the ground level is a large bathroom with shower, double sinks and toilet facilities. Wooden stairs lead up to the bedroom with queen bed and lovely views to the vineyards.
A charmer, well positioned for day trips to the Bordeaux and Bergerac wine regions and throughout Dordogne.
Note: the property is available throughout the season at a lower rate for 4 people. In this case, the tower suite is locked.
