Miles of white-sand beaches await you on France’s Atlantic shores. The Ile de Ré is a preferred vacation destination, as well as the celebrated resort of Arcachon. Small seaside towns dot the coast south to Biarritz, long a famed and fashionable resort in a spectacular setting. From the coast, it’s an easy detour to Basque country including Bayonne and the picturesque beach and fishing port at St-Jean-de-Luz. The Basque region extends inland into the Pyrénées-Atlantique mountains, where scenic villages and magnificent vistas are around every corner. Take full advantage of the freshest fish and seafood, exceptional charcuterie, sheep-milk cheeses and fine Bordeaux wines.
The ports of La Rochelle and Rochefort are very attractive, as well as being popular with yachtsmen. South of the Gironde, the coast offers miles and sandy beaches.
The inland region of Midi Pyrénees, capital Toulouse, includes much of historic Gascony, a large rural area of gently rolling hills and plains, rising up to the Pyrenees.
