Set in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône wine country, Sablet is a charming walled village, rich in history, gastronomy, leisure and cultural activities and a classified AOC wine producer. A largely undiscovered treasure, it is located at the foot of the scenic Dentelles de Montmirail mountains with easy access to day trips throughout Provence. Our house is set near the village square where you’re just steps away from a full range of shops including bakeries, groceries, cafés and restaurants.
Among the village’s historic houses, this one is truly unique. Set into the side of the hill on which the village was built, the property features its own grotto (baume in Provençal) accessed through the entry gates. Here, sandstone walls create a calm, cool relaxing retreat, and it’s all yours. Ample outdoor dining furniture allows you to enjoy alfresco meals, apéritifs, relax with a book or take a nap. At breakfast, morning light streams into the east-facing space. In the evening, the grotto becomes a romantic candle-lit spot for an intimate dinner. Adjacent to the grotto is another dual-purpose area. One part is a utility area and summer kitchen, equipped with all the essentials for easily and conveniently preparing outdoor meals. The other side is furnished with lounging chairs, occasional tables and lamps.
Inside, the house has been fully renovated in fine Provençal tradition. Tile floors, ceramic tilework, white and boldly-colored walls complement a combination of casual contemporary furnishings. Modern conveniences include satellite television and high-speed internet service.
From the street level, the entryway goes up to an open-plan room with living and dining areas as well as a full kitchen. The room is light and airy with high wood-beamed ceilings and tall windows. In the sitting area are a comfortable leather sofa and rattan armchairs grouped around a small coffee table. Opposite is the dining area with round glass-topped table for 4 people. A colorful carpet, occasional tables, lamps and original artwork accent this appealing room. At one end is the fully-equipped kitchen with bright accent wall, all appliances, wood counters, cabinets and a full complement of cookware, dishes and cutlery. A small butcher-block topped table provides additional preparation space.
Up a few stairs from the main living area are 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and separate toilet facilities. One of the bedrooms has a king bed, the other a queen. Both beds may be converted to twins, making them ideal for couples traveling together or a small family. Both are decorated with colorful bedcovers, quilts, bedside tables and lamps. The remodeled bathroom features a large stone-tiled shower and sink with spacious counter and vanity. Separate toilet facilities are adjacent. Newly renovated, the 2nd bathroom has a full bath with a shower handle, wc .
