On the southern side of the Luberon mountains – made famous by Peter Mayle’s classic book, A Year in Provence – you’ll discover an array of unique towns and villages. Stroll the picturesque streets of Lourmarin, enjoy mountain and valley views from the perched village of Ansouis, buy artisan cheeses, fresh vegetables and local wine at the lively open air market in Pertuis. Or for more sophisticated sights, you’ll find the celebrated city of Aix-en-Provence with its tree-lined avenues, historic center and pedestrian shopping streets within easy driving distance.
If you’re looking for a distinctive property in this alluring region, look no further than Bastide de la Tour. Located near the village of la Tour d’Aigues with small shops and services, this 19th-century property oozes Provençal character and charm. Set in large acreage, the property includes vineyards and a wine estate producing red, white and rosé wines. The property also features an oil-producing olive grove and fruit-bearing trees from apple and fig to apricot and nectarine.
In front of the house is a spacious graveled terrace with teak dining furniture shaded by graceful plane trees. It’s a wonderful spot for relaxing and taking full advantage of the vineyard views. Also by the terrace is an old stone bassin, a reminder of days gone by. Surrounding the property are Mediterranean pines and other tall trees as well as a variety of flowering plants and shrubs. And set to the side of the house is a lovely cascading swimming pool with stone terrace, pool house and ample lounging furniture. With such peaceful and evocative surroundings, you may find it hard to venture out.
Traditionally built on three stories, the old bastide is expansive with living space of over 6,000 square feet. Completely restored, it features the finest building materials including stone, marble and antique terra cotta floors and beamed ceilings. Fully equipped for your complete comfort and convenience, the house has first-class appliances, designer lighting, air conditioning and Wi Fi internet access.
From the impressive entry hall with beautiful wrought-iron work, a door on the left leads to the spacious living room and on to the den. French doors open from both rooms to the terraces. Casual, comfortable furnishings include upholstered sofas, armchairs, occasional tables and chests. In the den are a flat-screen television with satellite service, additional seating and a small desk.

Doors from the kitchen open to the front terrace. Another door opens to a large tile-roofed terrace with beamed ceiling, stone walls, glass doors and additional outdoor dining furniture.
From the entry hall, a stone staircase with beautiful handcrafted wrought-iron railing leads to the second and third floors where there are 9 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
