If wine is one of the reasons you go to France, then a trip to southern Burgundy is a must. Known for its historic abbey with origins in the 10th century, the village of Cluny is located in the heart of the Maconnais wine region, and its celebrated vineyards are all within short driving distance. Also nearby are the vineyards of the Beaujolais region. A little over an hour to the north is Burgundy’s renowned Côte d’Or wine region and the historic town of Beaune.
Located in the center of Cluny, just steps from its ancient abbey, shops, cafés and restaurants, this spacious Burgundy apartment rental is set in a 16th-century building. It is on the second floor (see note below) with stair access. Lovingly renovated and decorated, it features old plaster and wood beamed ceilings, stone tile floors, original fireplaces and an array of fine furnishings, including many antiques and works of art from the owner’s personal collection. And there’s a walled private garden with wrought iron table and chairs, a calm and charming spot to relax with a book or a glass of wine.
Entry is into the living room with dining area. This is an impressive room with massive wood beamed ceiling. In the sitting area are a cream-colored upholstered sofa and several armchairs grouped by the decorative fireplace. In the corner is an antique secretary and on one wall, a tall chest. The dining area is by the windows with a round wood dining table and chairs for 4 people. Occasional tables, lamps, fine ceramic pieces and works of art accent this gracious room. A door from the living area leads to the well-equipped kitchen with colorful tiled wall and small wood breakfast table that also provides additional preparation space.
The apartment has 2 bedrooms each with full ensuite bathrooms. The bedrooms are spacious and have side-by-side twin beds convertible to king. Both are decorated with pretty bedcovers, curtains or window shades, lovely carpets, antique tables and chests. Both have ample wardrobe space. The bathrooms are equipped with quality fixtures and feature marble and ceramic tilework. One of the suites is off the living room and overlooks the garden. A corridor off the entry leads to the second suite that overlooks the street.
