If you like venturing off the beaten path in Provence, this traditionally-built property is an exceptional homebase. Within easy driving distance is lively and historic Vaison-la-Romaine with its gallo-roman ruins and perched medieval village. Visit Orange and its renowned Roman amphitheater. Wind your way through Côtes du Rhône wine villages and the picturesque Dentelles de Montmirail mountains. And discover unique villages such as Richerenches, the truffle capital of Provence, whose tiny church is packed every January for the special truffle mass and auction.
Set in the countryside near the village of Visan, the property features spacious grounds, including a large natural garden with lawn and a grove of 100-year old truffle oaks (which, unfortunately, don’t produce the famed fungus!). Set away from the house surrounded by the oak grove is a beautiful mosaic-tiled swimming pool with stone terrace and views over the neighboring vineyards. Ample Italian-style loungers as well as a covered terrace with outdoor dining furniture make it the perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying alfresco meals. And there’s another covered terrace adjacent to the house. You’ll just need to pick your favorite spot!
Inside, the property has been built and furnished with no expense spared and features the highest quality building materials, top-notch appliances, fine fabrics and all modern amenities, including Wi Fi internet access. The house boasts classic Provençal design with sand-colored wood shutters, massive wood beams, travertine tile and stone work. Combining all modern comfort with Provençal charm, the home’s exceptional décor includes a collection of fine French country chests, tables, mirrors and art. It’s at once timeless, simple and elegant.
A gorgeous old wood desk welcomes you to the entry way leading to the open-plan living room and dining area. This spacious room is light and bright with its high beamed ceiling, white walls and four sets of French doors opening to the terraces and grounds. In the sitting area an overstuffed white upholstered sofa and several armchairs are grouped around a wood and glass coffee table by the stone fireplace. To one corner is the flat-screen television with satellite service. Behind the sitting room is the dining area with rectangular wood table and chairs for 8 people. An array of antique chests, tables, lovely lamps and artwork accent this handsome and appealing room.
An archway from the dining area leads to the kitchen, a welcome haven for the best of cooks. It features a professional stove with 5-gas burner cooktop and 2 ovens (1 gas, 1 electric), polished Italian marble counters, center island with butcher block top and a full complement of cabinets, cookware, utensils, dishes and cutlery. From here, French doors open to the covered dining terrace with gas barbecue, dining table and chairs.
There are a 4 bedrooms, a mezzanine sleeping area and two bathrooms. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated with antique tables, chests, lamps, curtains, colorful bedcovers and lovely linens. The bathrooms feature marble-topped double sinks, quality fixtures and travertine-tiled showers.
The bedrooms are all accessed off a corridor to the left of the entry. Two face the front of the property and include a bedroom with queen bed decorated in warm red and cream tones and a bedroom with twin beds decorated in pale blue and sand tones. Further down the corridor is a bedroom with large single bed and French doors opening to the grounds. These three bedrooms share a large bathroom with double sinks and shower also accessed on the hall. Adjacent are separate toilet facilities. The spacious master bedroom features a queen bed, French doors opening to the grounds and a full ensuite bathroom with double sinks, shower and toilet.
Additional sleeping space is available on a mezzanine overlooking the living room, accessed by a sturdy ladder-style staircase. This room has a sloping roof and is most appropriate for a young adult or teenagers. It includes both a double and single bed.
A first-class property with great Provençal style and flair, perfectly positioned to explore northern Provence.
