The Marais is one of the most lively and historic areas of Paris. In its heart is the Place des Vosges, the city's oldest arcaded square. Built by King Henry IV in the early 17th century, it was known as the Place Royale and was the center of elegance and festivities. Today, the square and the surrounding neighborhood are still bustling with exquisite food shops, cafés, restaurants, galleries and boutiques. Among Paris' unique smaller museums, the Carnvalet and the Picasso are just short walks away.
Located on a quiet alley around the corner from the Place des Vosges, this one bedroom apartment is set in a classic 19th-century building. It is on the second floor (see note below) with access up a graceful, curving staircase with beautiful wrought iron and wood railing. The apartment is light and bright with high wood-beamed ceilings and tall windows accented by wood parquet floors and original molding. The décor includes a combination of stylish contemporary and antique furnishings. An entry way opens to the open-plan living-dining area with heavy wood-beamed ceiling. In the sitting area are a cream-colored sofa and armchair grouped by a small wood coffee table near the ornamental stone fireplace. Adjoining is the dining area with round wood table and chairs for 4 people and a corner desk. This is a warm and welcoming room with antique armoire, colorful pillows and carpets. A counter separates the main living area from the well-designed kitchenette equipped with two-burner cooktop, convection-microwave oven and small refrigerator. Completing the apartment are a bedroom, bathroom and separate toilet facilities. The bedroom, with queen bed, is accessed from both the entry way and the living room. Decoration includes a warm red bedcover, pretty curtains, and antique wood shelves. Adjacent on the hall is ample wardrobe space. Another door off the living area opens to the large bathroom with windows overlooking the street. There is a stall shower, sleek vanity with glass sink, heated towel bar and ample shelf space. A door in the bathroom leads to separate toilet facilities. An apartment with grace and style in a historic and lively Parisian neighborhood. |
