Location:10 kms north of Beaune, 10 kms southwest of Nuits-St-Georges, 35 kms from Dijon
Magny-les-Villers enjoys a highly central location right in the middle of Burgundy's most prestigious vineyards in the Côte d'Or district. A wine-making village, it is peaceful but not isolated. The medieval town of Beaune - the center of wine-making for Burgundy - is a ten minute drive away, as is the charming town of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Dijon is only half an hour north. Endless wine tasting, gastronomic adventures and historic sights are at your doorstep.
Set in the village, this stone house has a small private walled garden accessed through a shared gravel courtyard. The garden has flowering plants and as well as outdoor dining furniture. And at the top of the entry stairs is a small covered veranda with bistro table and chairs - the perfect spot for breakfast or an aperitif.
With origins dating from the French Revolution, the old house was once part of a large farm complex with the farmers living above the animals, housed below. It has been well renovated and attractively decorated. Traditional features include both old painted tile and wood floors, complementing pastel walls, casual contemporary furnishings and dark wood antique pieces. Modern conveniences include quality appliances and high-speed (Wifi) internet access.
An ancient staircase from the courtyard goes up to the single-story living level and an entry hall from which the rooms are accessed. To the left is the open-plan living-dining room. On the far end, comfortable seating includes a bright red sofa and two upholstered armchairs grouped around a small wood coffee table. The old fireplace has been reconfigured with shelves housing the television and a library of guidebooks, DVDs and videos
Adjacent is an antique wood dining table and chairs for 4 people as well as an 18th-century buffet. Straight off the entry hall is the well-equipped kitchen with sunny yellow walls, white cabinets, white tile backsplash, antique china chest and a small wood breakfast table. The kitchen window overlooks the old village church.
The house has two bedrooms to the right of the entry. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a smaller twin-bedded room adjoining. The rooms are interconnected with passage through the twin room to the master bedroom. Both bedrooms have pastel walls, pretty bedcovers and antique chests or armoires. The white-tiled bathroom is on the left of the entry hall and has an American-style tub with shower and sink. Separate toilet facilities are adjacent.
A historic house with all comforts in an ideal location for savoring the best of Burgundy.
Note: Rentals can start on any day of the week, including Sundays. A one week minimum is required, after which extra days may be added on a prorated basis.
