Location: in Saumur, 65 kms southeast of Angers, 80 kms southwest of Tours
Set on the banks of the Loire River in a region of vineyards, the lively town of Saumur is known for its sparkling wines, as the birthplace of famed couturier Coco Chanel and for its medieval château perched above the river. The town is also home to the Cadre Noir, the national equestrian school, considered one of the finest in Europe and rivaling that of Vienna. And with its historic center and full complement of bustling shops, restaurants and cafés, Saumur is an ideal home base for visiting the Loire Valley.
This extraordinary residence is located right in Saumur, where you can easily walk to all the sights and shops. It's a pleasant stroll to bakeries for fresh bread and pastries in the morning or to one of many restaurants in the evening.
Dating from the 19th century, this stately manor house and surrounding grounds are exceptional in every way and among the finest in our portfolio. No expense has been spared in the renovation which includes the highest quality building materials, state-of-the-art appliances and handsome furnishings. You'll enjoy full comfort and all conveniences including air-conditioned bedrooms, high-speed internet access and on-site computers. The rental rate includes daily housekeeping and the services of a full-time concierge available to arrange an array of services (cooking, babysitting, spa) and tours (wine domaines, Paris day tour, etc).
An automatic gate opens into a garden of flowers, herbs and vegetables. Further on, the garden leads to a spacious stone courtyard featuring a heated infinity pool, outdoor lounging and dining furniture, an outdoor shower and gas barbecue. It's a lovely and serene spot for relaxing and leisurely outdoor meals.
Built on three levels, the manor house, has been decorated with great taste and flair. As its name suggests, it is indeed a polished pearl, designed in white from head to toe, accented with a variety of textures and fine fabrics. Traditional architectural features such as exposed beam ceilings, stone walls, fireplaces and stone floors highlight a stylish combination of contemporary furnishings and unique antique pieces.
The ground level comprises the heart and soul of the property. To the right of the entry is a spacious kitchen, a dream-come-true for amateur to professional cooks. A 14-foot island houses a Lacanche range with both gas and electric ovens. The island includes a counter and bar, the perfect vantage point for those who enjoy "supervising" the cooks. The kitchen is also equipped with a side-by-side refrigerator-freezer with bio-fresh storage, every small appliance imaginable and a full range of pots, pans and utensils.
To one side of the kitchen are two round glass-topped dining tables. Also on this side is a reading area with comfortable loveseat and chairs by the fireplace. To the right of the entry is another informal dining area with long white wood table and chairs and tall window overlooking the terrace.
Stairs from the entry lead to a spacious salon. It is light and airy with wood-beamed ceiling, white wood floors and tall windows overlooking the pool and terraces. At each end of the room is a comfortable sitting area with upholstered sofas and chairs grouped by the fireplaces. An Erard 1900 baby grand piano separates the two seating groups.
In the main house, there are a total of 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated with occasional antique pieces, lovely duvets and coverlets, fine linens and ample wardrobe space. They are all air conditioned and have ceiling fans. The bathrooms feature quality ceramic fixtures. On the second floor off the salon is a large king suite with small sitting area and television. Open to the bedroom is a bathroom with clawfoot tub, sink and glass-tiled shower. The toilet facilities are closed by a door.
On the third floor are three bedrooms with king beds. To the right is a large suite with television and furnished with two sofa beds and a crib accommodating up to 4 people. This suite has its own bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. To the left are two more bedrooms with king beds. One has a small desk with television, computer and printer. These two bedrooms share a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Also in this wing is an exercise room with equipment.
The Guest House, off the terrace by the pool, provides additional sleeping accommodations for 2-3 people. It is air conditioned for complete comfort in warmer months. On the entry level are a day bed appropriate for a child and a bathroom with sink and toilet facilities. Stairs lead up to a loft with queen size bed and stall shower. The Guest House has a kitchenette with small refrigerator, two-burner cooktop and oven, and a breakfast nook with small table and stools. It is also equipped with a television and music system.
An exceptional home and setting for groups of friends and families in the heart of a historic and lively Loire Valley town.
